Chapter Leaders

BWI of Wichita is lead by a crew of volunteer moms and dads who love babywearing and have been accredited by our national parent organization. For information about the accreditation process, you can visit BWI's national website here.

These are your hardworking chapter leaders of BWI of Wichita:

Whitney, VBE

Founding member Whitney is 33 and married husband Luke for almost 11 years. She has three children, ages B, 6; J, 4; and M, 1. Whitney began babywearing with a DIY stretchy wrap when her first daughter was a newborn! Whitney started meeting as a small group when her daughter was 6 months old (Stephanie Meyer and Sarah Gilmour were other beginning organizers, followed quickly by Erin Velez). In the 60+ meetings held in the six years since the Wichita chapter’s inception, Whitney has missed less than 10 meetings in all that time. Behind the curtain, Whitney is an optometrist, a child passenger safety advocate (formerly a certified technician), and teaches 3-4 year olds at Awana at Olivet Baptist Church where her family have has members since moving to Wichita in 2009.

At meetings, she will be helping attendees use their own carriers or those available in the lending library, giving a presentation on a babywearing topic, offering instruction and answering questions about babywearing and giving recommendations for carriers to suit your individual needs. Feel free to ask Courtney questions about how to use your carrier, what type of carrier would suite your needs and any other safety question you may have.

Rachel, VBE

Rachel, a self described hobby weaver and Air Force wife, has three kids: E, 5; B, 2; and, K, 6 months and has been babywearing for 5 years. The family has chickens, ducks, a cat and a dog. Rachel wanted to volunteer because she enjoyed making tutorials and helping people out. Wrapping and traditional carriers are what she enjoys learning about the most.

Courtney, VBE

Courtney began wearing her son B, now 2, when he was about 2 months in a moby, quickly followed by an ergo. Wrapping was a black hole and she loves traditional carriers! Volunteering allows her to get out of the house and connect with other moms. Courtney and her family are tiny house enthusiasts and will be welcoming their second child in August!

Laura, VBE

Laura joined the leadership team as chapter support volunteer in 2016 and became a VBE in 2017. She is a 30 year old former paralegal turned stay at home mother to her 2 boys: G, 2 years and T, 7 months. She began babywearing when her first son was about 3 months old in a Tula she bought off eBay. After coming to a few meetings she quickly fell in love with wrapping and continues to enjoy learning new carries with fancy finishes. Wearing her son quickly evolved from a daily necessity to a hobby to a passion and loves helping other parents and caregivers. In her spare (ha!) time, she enjoys making chocolate truffles, watching procedural crime dramas and enjoying time spent with her children, husband, 2 dogs and 2 cats.

Laura also maintains the chapter website so you can report any bugs or errors to her via email.

Jennifer, CSV

Jennifer has been a Chapter Support Volunteer since 2015. Feel free to ask Jennifer questions about membership, chapter meetings and events, and our library items. Jennifer maintains the records and database for our group's lending library and membership roster.

Alisha, CSV
